Mung Dal

Ingredients

  • 1 cup mung dal
  • 2 table spoons oil
  • 1 tea spoon cumin seeds
  • A pinch asafoetida
  • 1 tea spoon red chilli powder
  • 1 tea spoon ginger-chilli paste 2 tea spoons sugar
  • ½ tea spoon turmeric powder
  • 8 cloves garlic
  • 2 table spoons coriander leaves
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  • Wash and soak the mung dal for at least 2 hours. Heat oil in a kadhai. Add cumin seeds and asafoetida. Add the soaked mung dal and water enough to cover the dal.
  • Add red chilli powder, turmeric powder, ginger-chilli paste and sugar.
  • Garlic paste also may be added (optional). The dal should remain whole after cooking. It should have some amount of gravy. Decorate with chopped coriander.
